Mmmmmmmm. Cheat Days. They’re a critical part of all of our nutrition programs, and they work like gangbusters when used strategically and appropriately.
But, the biggest issue many customers face after a cheat day is dealing with the left over “cheat” food looming around their kitchen after a day of indulgence. After all, who can really resist those left over chocolate chip cookies in your cupboard the first day back on your regimen?
Not me.
So, in order to achieve the HUGE psychological and physical benefits of cheat days without having them ruin your entire diet week, here’s what you need to do with your cheat day leftovers before you go to bed:
Throw them out.
Yeah, I know that seems “wasteful”, but the reality is that if you leave them lying around, it’s very likely you’ll eat them.
Which brings me to another suggestion: shop in moderation.
Personally, I enjoy mostly dining out on my Cheat Day. It’s much easier for me to stick to my diet during the week by eating at home, so when Saturday rolls around it’s time to go out.
But, if you’re someone who likes to hit the grocery store for all your favorites, remember…you can always buy more. Yes, it’s your day to splurge, but I’d recommend eating a big breakfast before heading out to the grocery store. That way you’ll be full and you won’t be tempted to over-spend because you’re not starving.
To recap:
1. Eat a big breakfast before going to the store on a Cheat Day
2. Throw out any cheat food leftovers before you go to bed after a Cheat Day
Do those and you’ll maximize the effectiveness of your Cheat Days without over-spending and without having your Cheat Day spill over into your diet week.
