Consume MORE salt to help you balance out your hormones and improve adrenal function?
Sounded crazy, at first.
It’s part of my new morning ritual these days.
As soon as I wake up, I drink a large glass of water with 1/2 to 1 tsp. of this white powder in it.
I’m talking about salt.
But not just any salt.
Why would I add so much salt to my morning water and make it taste terrible?
One word… ADRENALS.
Your adrenal glands are two little organs that sit on top of your kidneys.
They help manage your stress hormone cortisol, but they also control a hormone called “aldosterone.”
This hormone is responsible for keeping the sodium balances inside your body.
When you consume too much sodium, it flushes it out.
When you don’t consume enough, it adjusts your body’s functions accordingly.
But if you’re under a ton of stress — like me these days–your adrenal glands STOP producing aldosterone.
Before you know it, your body actually needs MORE sodium, but it is never able to get it.
And that’s part of the reason you may feel very fatigued in the morning, even though you sleep just fine.
So my advice is…
If you’re under a lot of stress with everything that’s going on in your life, try my new morning ritual.
But NEVER use refined salt.
It doesn’t have the same effect as pure unrefined salt, and would expose your body and adrenal glands to toxic additives.
Everything you’ve heard about salt and sodium is just another nutrition lie!
I know it may sound hard to believe…
After all, every health institution, nutritionist and fitness website under the sun tells you to avoid salt.
But the truth is that the guidelines on salt from the American Heart Association (AHA) are too low, and even downright dangerous.
…Especially if you exercise a lot.
Your body NEEDS salt to be healthy.
Even worse — if you eat a very low salt diet, you’re setting yourself up for:
– Increased insulin resistance
– Increased blood triglycerides, LDL cholesterol and stress hormones
– Increased risk of stroke and heart attack
– Increased arterial plaque formation
– Overtraining-like symptoms, including hypertension and sleeping disorders
Salt is simply NOT the enemy for 99% of people.
(The only reason you’d want to watch your salt intake very closely is if you have specific renal or kidney problems, or osteoporosis.)
HOWEVER, not all salts are created equal — far from it.
Always try to avoid common refined salt (table salt), and use unrefined salt instead.
Refined salt contains 99.7% sodium chloride.
The rest being a bunch of added chemicals like ferrocyanide, fluoride and aluminosilicate — which you definitely do NOT want in your food…
On the other hand, pure unrefined salt contains about 92% sodium chloride, the rest being essential trace
minerals and other micronutrients
