There is always a “great debate” going on with carbohydrates, yet if you eat them properly, they can work wonders in your fat loss and lowering your body fat percentage.
One of the big questions that kept coming in from readers was WHAT carbohydrates are best for fat loss and WHEN should they be eaten.
So I thought I’d share my thoughts with you today about what has worked best for myself and my clients in the past when it comes to carbohydrates and losing body fat.
Top 5 Carbohydrates Sources
- Fruit
- Sweet Potatoes or Yams
- Potatoes
- WHITE Rice
- Steel Cut Oats
Close second… Black and pinto beans
For me, when looking into carb sources that are the best, I ALWAYS look for one ingredient foods. Anything with more than one ingredient is going to be processed which is NOT what you are looking for (like the cheat foods I mentioned earlier).
Best Time To Eat Your Carbs
- Immediately Post Workout: Your body is primed for carbohydrates after a tough workout. I typically shoot for my biggest carb meal immediately post workout. Depending on the day, I’ll include 50-100 grams of carbs during this meal.
2. 3-4 Hours Pre-Workout: When you start doing this, you will notice your energy levels in your workouts go up drastically. Including just 25-50 grams of carbs here will do the trick.
- On Your Cheat Day or During Your Cheat Meal:Remember my 5 favorite cheat foods I mentioned earlier? I’ll eat those once a week. And they do not effect my body fat percentage simply because I am following a solid diet throughout the week.
When you eat the right foods for 7-10 straight days, you deserve to indulge in some of your favorite foods. I mean, even The Rock has some EPIC cheat meals:
Now, of course, this shouldn’t be happening all the time… But it should every once in a while IF you stay on track with your diet plan.
