KNIFE VIDEOS

When learning to fight with a knife, you will perform the same drills used with single or double sticks.
Some points to remember :
– The knife is just an extension of your arm
– Always practice with a wooden knife for safety
– Always practice slowly. Gradually increase speed only when no mistakes are being made
– Grip the knife firmly, but keep your body relaxed
– Rely on speed, not power strikes
– Never rely on a ‘one-strike-knockout’. Always fast, multiple strikes

WHY WE PRACTISE KNIFE DRILLS

Shashido Enterprises does not promote the carrying of knives when out in public, nor the use of a weapon in the street. However, it is a fact of life that most thugs carry some form of weaponry while prowling the streets looking for a victim, and it’s usually a blade.

In any confrontation,it is imperative to avoid panic, and practicing knife drills builds the confidence necessary to achieve this aim. Learning how to use a knife helps you prepare for the psychological onslaught of facing a nut-case hell bent on slashing you to pieces. That is perhaps the most important reason we practice knife self defence. Furthermore, weapons are  part of martial arts training. Virtually every style has some form of weapons training in the curriculum. It’s a fact that the knife plays a large part in Filipino martial arts culture, so it would be remiss of me not to offer it, otherwise, you would be missing out on a large part of the art.

Unarmed defences against the knife are practiced with an armed partner, also how to utilize your surroundings when confronted. For example, is there a chair, tree branch, wash cloth, neck scarfe, beach towel, pencil, cutlery, porcelain plate, etc, that could be used to defend with.

Although the Shashido Warrior abhors violence ( see Tenets of Bujindo ), he should at least have a fighting chance of surviving.
