3 Metabolism Myths Sabotaging Your Fat Loss Efforts

There are MORE myths about metabolism than any other area of health. And that’s because the term “metabolism” is poorly misunderstood and overly abused by most people – including the experts.

For instance, here are 3 BIG metabolism myths. Which ones have you been led to believe?

Metabolism Myth #1: Skinny People Have a “Fast Metabolism”

Yup, this is a biggie. This is the myth that makes skinny people the envy of their friends. This is this myth that allows skinny people and athletes to think they can get away with eating whatever they want and not suffer the consequences.

Being a thin person myself (and former pro athlete), I can tell you firsthand that this is completely false. Eat whatever you want and eventually you WILL suffer the consequences.

I bought into this myth for years and it created a number of brutal health outcomes that set me back for years.

You’ll be shocked to find out that your metabolism is not a “broken” as you might think. And even if it is, I’ll show you some terrific ways to bring it back from the dead.

Metabolism Myth #2: “If I Don’t Eat, My Metabolism Will Shut Down!”

Really? Will it? How do you know? Who said so? The magazines or some expert on Dr. Oz?

The fear of not eating all the time has crushed the health of so many people. It’s one of the reasons that we’re so addicted to eating all the time. We fear not eating because we might enter “starvation mode” – in which our body holds onto fat – and so we continually eat.

But check this out…

A 2007 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition revealed that when subjects ate only ONE meal per day instead of three — without cutting calories — they lost 4.4 pounds of fat and gained almost 2 pounds of lean mass in 8 weeks!

So, missing a meal here and there will NOT hold you back from losing weight.

Our Paleolithic ancestors didn’t have the luxury of eating all the time and they seemed much better off. Diabetes and obesity were probably non-existent. Obviously, eating all the time is not healthy for us.

Thankfully, skipping a meal or two won’t hurt your metabolism and, as you’re about to discover, can actually improve your chances of losing fat.

Metabolism Myth #3: “Spicy Foods Boost Your Metabolism”

The metabolic effect of certain spices – like cayenne, cinnamon, and turmeric – have been celebrated in many media outlets. But let’s get real folks.

Are you really going to believe that adding 1-2 tsp of a particular spice is miraculously going to peel fat off your body or overshadow your overall diet?

I don’t think so. Sure these spices are great for your health but they certainly won’t help you stay lean….unless of course that’s all you eat.
