3 Big Breakfast Mistakes

Do you start your morning off with a nice tall glass of ‘fresh’ orange juice?

How about a ‘healthy’ bowl of whole grain cereal with milk?

Or maybe you go all out and get a freshly baked donut topped with frosting and the works!

Any and all of these breakfast choices are not only commonly accepted in today’s society – they are directly related to poor health and obesity.

What you choose to eat first thing in the morning sets the course for how your body will respond to food for the entire rest of the day. What you continuously choose to eat for breakfast day-after-day dictates your overall health – and can only be fixed and reversed when you break the cycle.

(1) Juices

Liquids are broken down in the body extremely quickly after consumption. They cause blood sugar levels to spike which leads to a crash shortly thereafter. This crash leads to fatigue, headaches and can cause cravings for MORE of what gave you that initial sugar rush. In addition to the terrible effects juice can have on you hormonally, most of today’s juices on the market are full of toxic preservatives and artificial ingredients. That “fresh” juice isn’t so fresh after all!

(2) Cereal

Much in the same way that juices causes spikes to blood sugar, grain-filled cereals have the same effect. High-glycemic carbohydrates such as cereal, muffins and donuts are used very quickly as energy in the body and don’t leave us feeling “full” or satisfied for very long. Constantly eating these carbohydrate sources over time lead to weight gain, hormone and immunity issues as well as insulin resistance.

(3) No Protein

Protein is NECESSARY for our bodies to grow and repair itself – but it also stabilizes blood sugar, assists in weight loss and leaves us feeling satisfied. Beginning your day with a quality protein helps you feel fuller for longer, ramps up your metabolism and isn’t followed by a sharp drop in blood sugar after consumption.
